Converting midi files to mp3

Schools are increasingly using software to compose musical compositions. Software such as Noisy Things and 2Simple Music Toolkit is allowing this to easily happen, however to use the files in other applications they must be saved in a recognisable format.

Noisy Things – to save musical compositions in Noisy Things you need to press Ctrl, Shift and R. This will bring up a save dialogue box and you can choose the location to save your file. (Unfortunately this doesn’t work on Helicopter Hoot and Colliding Cogs) The files that are saved are midi files. This format is not commonly accepted by other programs. By converting these files to an wav or mp3 you can then incorportate them into other applications.  See note below on converting.

2Simple Music Toolkit – 2Play, 2 Synthesise and 2Compose all export as midi files (If you select that option) and you will need to follow the steps below to convert the files to mp3 or wav. 2Sequence unfortunately doesn’t save in a recognisable format.

James Watson at Podium has provided a video to show how to convert midi to wav or mp3 using iTunes. This can be downloaded free from the web.
